Frequently Asked Questions
What types of timber do you offer?
We offer a variety of high-quality, unfinished timbers, including Eastern White Pine and Douglas fir. We also have European Spruce for interior grade material. Each type has its unique characteristics and suitability for different applications.
How do I choose the right timber for my project?
Consider factors such as the timber’s grain pattern, color, and hardness. For example, Pine is a type of timber that is lighter in weight and frequently used for decorative elements. It all comes down to the project itself and what the application is for.
Can I see samples of your timber before purchasing?
Yes, we offer sample pieces of our timber. Please contact us to request samples, and we’ll be happy to send them for your review. You are also able to stain the samples to see how you would like the finish.
Do you provide finishing services, or do I need to finish the timber myself?
No, we don’t offer finishing services, however, we specialize in providing unfinished timber. We also offer custom texture options for your desired outcome.
How should I store the timber before installation?
Store the timber in a dry, well-ventilated area, elevated from the ground to avoid moisture absorption. Keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent warping or cracking.
What are the benefits of using unfinished timber for home decor?
Unfinished timber allows you to customize the finish to match your home’s decor. It also often has a more natural and rustic appearance compared to pre-finished options. Since no two pieces are exactly alike, your results will be individual, custom, and special.
Can I install the timber myself, or do I need a professional?
While some customers choose to install timber themselves, we recommend consulting a professional for complex installations, such as beams and ceiling details, to ensure proper fitting and safety.
What should I do if the timber arrives damaged or does not meet my expectations?
If you encounter any issues with your order, please contact us immediately. We will work with you to address any concerns, provide replacements, or offer solutions to ensure your satisfaction. Sometimes people forget that they’re buying a rough sawn timber beam, and it will all have individual character and will not look finished. As they dry out they start to “check” or dry out, changing the character and appearance.
Are there any specific maintenance requirements for the timber?
Regular dusting and occasional conditioning with appropriate wood care products can help maintain the timber’s appearance. Avoid using harsh chemicals or excessive water. With proper maintenance, this should last a lifetime. Paint, seal, stain, and oil finishing all have their own requirements for maintenance.
Do you offer delivery services?
Yes, we offer delivery services for our timber products. Please contact us to discuss delivery options and arrange a time that suits you. Fees will apply on a case-by-case basis. Within 50 miles, we will ship for free, with a small handling fee. Please contact us for details.

We accept returns within 15 days. No custom cuts can be returned. No returns for checking. Anything that is returned has to be in excellent condition. Our return policy is detailed on our invoices. Can I get a quote for a large order or custom project?
Absolutely! For large orders or custom projects, please provide details about your requirements, and we will prepare a personalized quote for you.
Are your products good for use on exterior projects?
Yes, with the proper preparation. It’s raw, untreated wood, so we would of course recommend that you would treat it with stain, sealant, etc. before you install it outdoors.
Structural grade info?
Our Douglas Fir may be a little different than what you buy elsewhere. We sell free-of-heart-center Douglas fir, which is the best quality you can get. This prevents checking, twisting, therefore it is a premium product. It is #1 and better structural grade. Our pine is #2 and better.
Are there any ordering minimums?
There are no minimums for ordering. However, there are best practices recommended for shipping small quantities. Please contact for specific information for your order.
Can I purchase from Mid-West Timber directly or do I need to order from a distributor? Where do I find you?
You can buy directly from us, however, purchasing from a distributor can make the process smoother and quicker. The distributor has the ability to deliver to your home with specialized equipment that we don’t have as the manufacturer.
What Lead Times are normal for you?
Typically we are looking at 2-3 days to get an order ready for shipping – a more individualized order could take from 2-3 weeks. Please ask for specifics at the time of your order.
What types of financing or deposit is required?
For large or one-off customers, there could be a 50% deposit required at order. We will waive the deposit for a customer who already has an account with us (distributors, etc.). We do not offer financing.
Do you have a showroom where I can see what it looks like installed?
Yes! We have a beautiful showroom where you can see first-hand what our timber can do for your project. Also, many of our distributors have displays where you can really get up close and personal with our beautiful products.
